Former Amerk Ted Nolan speaks today during a news conference announcing that he would join the team as vice president of hockey operations.

Ted Nolan is back with the Rochester Americans as the vice president of hockey operations.

While I think a lot of people have heard his name over the past several days, weeks or even months, I now have confirmation from several sources outside the Amerk organization.

The team itself wants to save the announcement for 1 p.m. That’s when they’re having a news conference for a “major” announcement, according to Tuesday’s email notification.

The news conference will be streamed live on DemocratandChronicle.com (barring unforeseen technical difficulties).

Nolan played for the Amerks just one season, 1984-85, but was very popular. He scored 28-34-62 in 65 games, and piled up 152 penalty minutes.

He has coached in the NHL with the Buffalo Sabres, winning NHL coach of the year honors there in 1996-97, and also with the New York Islanders.
