Rhino Engines to pay penalty
A Fairport-based auto parts retailer has agreed to a $40,000 settlement with the state Attorney General’s Office regarding allegations it wasn’t shipping some customers’ purchases or making refunds.
Blue Venture Solutions Inc., doing business as Rhino Engines and Transmissions, sold auto parts and components via the Internet and phone orders.
Under the agreement, the business at 144 Village Landing will put $40,000 into an account to reimburse customers. Rhino also will pay $2,000 in penalties and fees to the state.
Rhino principal Timothy Cone could not be reached for comment.
For a refund, Rhino customers must have made a purchase between Dec. 1, 2007, and Jan. 1, 2009, and have never received what they ordered or a refund from the company. The deadline for submitting a claim is Sept. 23, and claims can be made with the Attorney General’s Rochester regional office at (585) 327-3240.
Kraft’s profit rises in Q2
Kraft Foods Inc., which has a manufacturing plant in Avon, said second-quarter profit rose 11 percent even though revenue slipped. The earnings beat Wall Street expectations, and the company boosted its profit guidance for fiscal 2009.
Kraft earned $827 million, or 56 cents per share, in the three-month period that ended in June. That compared with earnings of $745 million, or 49 cents per share, a year earlier.
The Northfield, Ill.-based company said revenue fell 6 percent to $10.16 billion.
2 area printers lauded by EPA
Two area commercial printers — Diamond Packaging in Henrietta and Monroe Litho in Rochester — are being lauded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for their use of “green” energy.
All of Diamond Packaging’s annual energy needs of 6.4 million kilowatt hours come from wind generation, the EPA said. Monroe Litho similarly gets its 2 million kilowatt hours from wind power, according to the EPA’s Green Power Partnership top 20 list of commercial printers in the U.S.
