College class of 2013, I want to say one word to you. Just one word. Engineering.

Definitely not law, marketing/advertising or human resources.

A survey of human resource executives conducted by Chicago-based outplacement consulting firm Challenger Gray & Christmas Inc. indicated that such fields as computer science/information technology, engineering and medicine/health care have the flexibility that will let graduates pursue the widest range of fields likely to emerge over the next 20 years.

Despite the recession, some of those job fields are seeing some growth now, according to Challenger Gray.

For the survey, Challenger Gray contacted 150 human resources executives and asked what careers would be most worth pursuing in college. Among the least-recommended areas are law, marketing/advertising and human resources.

Numerous Rochester-area colleges are seeing their freshmen move into dorms now and readying for the start of the fall semester.
