ICS Telecom founder turns reins over to son

I.C. Shah, founder and CEO of Henrietta-based telecommunications company ICS Telecom, is handing over the presidency of the company to his son, Raj Shah.

The 33-year-old company provides broadband communications services to a variety of businesses and government bodies.

In a statement Friday announcing the move, the elder Shah said 2009 marked the company’s best year ever in terms of revenue and net income and that he will remain CEO.

Like a good athlete, I would like to turn over the reins while I am still at the top of my game,” he said.

ICS also has an office in Buffalo.

UR honors ex-Kodak scientist with doctorate

The University of Rochester has given an honorary doctorate to Steven Sasson, a retired Eastman Kodak Co. research scientist widely credited as an inventor of the digital camera.

Sasson, of Hilton, received the degree last week during the PhotoHistory XIV symposium held at the George Eastman House. Sasson was keynote speaker of the three-day event.

The entire multibillion-dollar digital imaging industry traces quite directly back to this original innovation right here at Kodak,” former UR Dean of Engineering Kevin Parker said in a statement.

Sasson is a Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute graduate. He retired earlier this year after more than 35 years at Kodak. Sasson, along with Gareth A. Lloyd, shares the 1978 U.S. patent for an electronic still camera, which was developed while the two were researchers at Kodak. Lloyd died in 2001.
