Super Bowl ads rated by area experts

Sandwiched by screaming chickens and a trash-talking Betty White, Google’s understated ad was ranked the best of Sunday night’s Super Bowl TV advertisements in Roberts Communications’ Customer Bowl V.

The High Falls-based marketing agency for a fifth year held an unscientific poll of what people thought was the best Super Bowl ad. This year’s survey was done via Facebook.

The polling did not look at every ad but a select number including Audi’s “Green Police” spot, Budweiser’s “Clydesdale/Fences” ad, E-Trade’s “Talking Babies,” Volkswagon’s “PunchBug,” Dodge’s “Man’s Last Stand” and HomeAway.com’s “Griswolds.”

E-Trade. meanwhile, won over a panel of six judges assembled by Forbes.com. That panel included Eastman Kodak Co. Chief Marketing Officer Jeff Hayzlett. About the Talking Babies “Girlfriend/First Class” ad, Hayzlett said “I don’t know the agency that made this ad, but after watching it I want to meet them. These people are funny and they’ve gotten me to pay attention and to laugh.”

Meanwhile, the Forbes.com panel named the GoDaddy.com “News” ad the worst of the night. About that, Hayzlett said “My advice to Danica Patrick is that she should get in the car and drive away from this as fast as possible. The only thing that would have made it better? A wardrobe malfunction.”
