Kansas is again the runaway No. 1 in The Associated Press’ college basketball poll and there is a different No. 2 for the fourth straight week.

Syracuse moved into the second spot today, its highest ranking since a six-week stretch at No. 1 in 1989-90. The Orange also climbed a notch to third in the USA Today/ESPN coaches’ poll behind Kansas and Kentucky.

Kansas, which received 55 first-place votes from the 65-member national media panel that compiles the AP poll, is No. 1 for the 11th time this season out of 14 polls. Syracuse moved up one place and had eight first-place votes.

Kentucky, which was No. 1 on two ballots, was third, while Villanova and West Virginia, which meet Monday night, are fourth and fifth.

Kansas received 29 of 31 first-place votes in the USA Today/ESPN poll. The Jayhawks received 773 points while Kentucky had 731 and Syracuse 728. Both the Wildcats and Orange received one first-place vote.

West Virginia, Villanova, Purdue, Duke, Georgetown, Kansas State and Michigan State round out the top 10 in the coaches’ rankings.

Cornell (20-3) climbed three spots to No. 22.

Syracuse, which defeated Cincinnati 71-54 yesterday, is home twice this week with games Wednesday against Connecticut and Sunday against Louisville.
