No. 5 Irondequoit defeats No. 12 Gates Chili; Webster defeats Hilton

Rob Shade recorded 38 assists as fifth-seeded Irondequoit defeated No.12 Gates Chili 3-1 in a Section V Class A first round boys volleyball match Monday.

Ben Bovenzi added 14 kills and four blocks for the Eagles (15-4), who won by scores of 25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21.

Zach Benz had 40 assists, 3 blocks, and 3 kills and Jake Carpenter had 19 kills and 11 blocks for the Spartans (4-13).

No. 9 Webster 25-26-25, No. 8 Hilton 15-24-18

Matt McKrell had 13 digs, 11 kills and 3 aces and Kevin Rodriguez had 11 kills and nine digs for the Lakers (10-9).

Dan Steger led the Cadets (11-10) with eight kills.

No. 14 Canandaigua 25-25-25, No. 3 East 21-23-23

Ryan McGlynn had four kills for the Braves (5-14).

Clinton Wilson had 9 kills, 6 blocks and 6 aces for the Orientals (16-2).

No. 4 Mcquaid 25-25-25, No. 13 Edison 4-15-11

Sophomore Sam Palermo Jr. had three kills and sophomore Brendan Murphy three assists and two digs for the Knights (17-2).

David Johnson had three kills and two blocks for the Inventors (4-11).

No. 6 Fairport 25-25-25, No. 11 Churchville-Chili 10-18-17

Wes Turner had eight kills and three blocks and Dylan Kuhn added five kills and two blocks for the Red Raiders (13-6).

Alex Wezelis made 12 kills for the Saints.

No. 10 Brockport 34-25-25, No. 7 Spencerport 32-16-22

Will Noel had 11 kills and Sam Carges added 24 assists and 6 digs for the Blue Devils (8-11).

Milan Mitrovic put down 14 kills for the Rangers (12-8).

Matt Sutherland had 23 points and Cody Wiktorski had 22 assists and four kills for the Patriots (17-2).

David Lawrence had seven kills and Alex Pelta set for three assists for the Barons (8-12).

Charlotte finished 5-13.

Desi Gulley had 15 points and eight kills for the Jaguars (11-7).

Oscar Pagan had 14 kills, 5 assists and two blocks and Ariel Flores made 12 assists for the Titans (14-4).

Tyler Blank had 22 kills and Brendan Hughes added 15 for the Lancers (5-14).

No. 7 Wayne 25-20-25-25, No. 10 Monroe 22-25-20-17

The Eagles improved to 9-9.

Jose Ozuna had 10 kills for Monroe (5-12).

Class BB semifinals

No. 1 Palmyra Macedon 2, No. 4 Livonia 1 (OT)

Arber Emerllahu scored the winner with 1:52 left in the first overtime off a pass from his cousin, Qazim Emerllahu, for the Red Raiders.

Qazim Emerllahu scored to put Pal-Mac (15-2-1) up 1-0 at 3:20.

Nate Rucci scored for the Bulldogs (8-7-3).

No. 3 Bath 2, No. 2 Hornell 1

Bath won 3-2 on penalty kicks.

Zach Reed scored a header off a throw-in by John Smith in the 12th minute to go up 1-0 for the Rams (14-2-1), who face Pal-Mac in the sectional final Saturday.

Tom Rose scored for Hornell (14-3).

Class B semifinals

No. 1 Holley 1, No. 5 North Rose-Wolcott 0

Junior forward Caleb Orbaker scored to lift the Hawks (17-1).

No. 3 Greece Odyssey 4, No. 7 Wayland-Cohocton 1

Joe Walsh scored twice and Steve Elensky made four saves for the Leopards (11-6-1), who play top-seeded Holley in the final.

Class D semifinals

No. 2 Belfast 4, No. 6 Northstar 3

Jakin Tang scored twice and had an assist for Northstar (8-10-2).

No. 1 Webster Christian 3, No. 5 Andover 0

Tyler Holbein scored two second-half goals and Derek Holmes added another second-half goal for the Warriors (15-2-1), who advance to play Belfast in the championship.

Phil Ramos recorded 10 saves for the shutout.

Andover is 9-8.

Field hockey

Class B/C quarterfinal

No. 5 E. Irondequoit Eastridge 2, No. 4 Brighton 1 (OT)

Jenn Ghio scored two goals, including the winner with 1:22 remaining in double overtime, for the Lancers (3-14).

Olivia Bridges scored for the Barons (2-15).

Large crowds are expected for some of the Section V football finals this weekend at Rochester Rhinos Stadium, especially on Friday night when McQuaid and Aquinas play for the Class A championship.
Tickets for the games are available in advance at the Rochester Rhinos Stadium box office and at ticketmaster.com, in order to alleviate a possible crush in demand on the game days.
