Honoeye Falls-Lima boys, girls sweep Nordic team relay titles

Behind strong anchor leg performances from seniors Steve Mangan and Amanda Moreland, the Honeoye Falls-Lima boys and girls swept the classic team relays to capture team titles at the Section V Nordic Skiing Championships Monday at the Bristol Nordic Center.
The HF-L ‘A’ boys won the 12-kilometer relay in 42 minutes, 19 seconds, nearly four minutes over the Pittsford Mendon ‘A’ team.
The Cougars boys entered the second portion of the team competition with an eight-point lead over Mendon, but extended it to an 18-point winning margin with a dominant performance in the relay.
The HF-L ‘A’ girls relay team, paced by three-time defending sectional champion Moreland, won in 50:06, which was more than six minutes faster than the HF-L ‘B’ team.
The HF-L girls claimed the team title by 40 points over Mendon.
The HF-L boys and girls will compete in the state meet Feb. 23-24 at the Harriet Hollister State Recreation Area and the Bristol Nordic Center.
