Knighthawks lose to Boston Blazers
The Rochester Knighthawks got scoring from two of its featured offensive standouts as John Grant Jr. and Gary Gait combined for seven goals and three assists.
Unfortunately, they only got one other goal from the rest of the team in a 14-8 loss to the Boston Blazers on Saturday before 7,526 at the TD Garden in Boston.
Grant finished with four goals and two assists and Gait added three goals and an assist but the Knighthawks (3-3) never led after scoring the game’s first goal.
The closest they would come was 10-8 after Gait scored his third of the game with 7:23 remaining in the fourth quarter. It was Rochester’s final goal of the game.
Trailing 10-5 with just over 12 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Grant scored back-to-back goals to pull the Knighthawks within three before Gait’s goal made it 10-8.
Boston (3-3) took over from there with four goals, including two by Jamie Rooney, in the last five minutes to put the game out of reach.
The Knighthawks scored first on a goal by Craig Point with 12:45 remaining in the first quarter. Boston tied the game seven seconds later and then took a 2-1 lead on a power-play goal by Daryl Veltman with 3:48 remaining.
Rochester would have tied the game on a goal by Grant, but it was disallowed because there was no time on the clock.
Boston then rattled off four straight goals in the second quarter for a 6-1 lead.
Rochester goalie Aaron Bold made 30 saves in 40 minutes while Pat O’Toole stopped two shots in 20 minutes.
