Wish you were here: Machu Picchu, Peru

My teenage sons, Adam and Max, and I traveled to Cuzco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, Peru. We loved the spectacular mountains, the impressive archeological sites, the charming villages and outdoor markets, the narrow cobbled streets and the beautiful plazas. We enjoyed trying new foods, including cuy (guinea pig) and alpaca. We learned about the architectural and building methods used by Incas that have enabled their structures to survive conquistadors and earthquakes and remain largely the same after many hundreds of years. Machu Picchu was even more breathtaking (not just because of the high altitude) than we expected, surrounded by Andean peaks with incredible views of mountains and valleys in every direction.
