State fair starts this week

It’s that time again. The Great New York State Fair begins Thursday at the State Fairgrounds, State Fair Boulevard in Geddes, just outside of Syracuse.
The 12-day fair runs through Labor Day (Sept. 7) and includes more than two dozen concerts, agricultural and historical exhibits, contests and competitions, midway rides and games.
Gates are open daily from 8 a.m. to midnight, while the buildings are open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
On Labor Day, the buildings will close at 9 p.m. Kelly Clarkson opens the grandstand concert series at 7:30 p.m. Thursday with Kenny Chesney at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
