Tom and Bern Will Brown return from a day’s fishing on Colville Lake.
My husband, Bill, and I had an amazing opportunity to travel to Colville Lake, Northwest Territory, Canada to help his cousin Bern Will Brown celebrate his 89th birthday. We traveled with Bern’s younger brother, the Rev. Thomas Brown of San Paolo, Brazil, who is 83. Both of the Brown boys grew up in Rochester and graduated from Aquinas. Two days of air travel, ending on a mail plane, took us 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle to a settlement founded by Bern, Our Lady of the Snows Mission on the shores of Colville Lake. Spruce, crystal clear waters, rustic hand-crafted log buildings and the native people added to the panorama of Arctic bush, distant mountains and the picturesque lake.
