Ten things to do in the Rochester area this weekend

1. The Rochester Museum & Science Center today opens Be the Dinosaur: Life in the Cretaceous, which includes fun facts, robotic creatures and a simulated trip with you being the dinosaur. Admission is $12 ($10 seniors, college students with ID and children ages 3-18; free to ages 2 and younger).

2. Montana Jack, aka Brian Coughlin, will perform Tall Tales & Cowboy Songs from the Wild, Wild West at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tango Cafe. Tickets are $5 per child (parents are free if they behave). Coughlin hopes this is the first of several family-themed shows for Tango. Call (585) 271-4930.

3. The Damascus Shrine Circus continues at 2 and 7 p.m. today, 10 a.m., 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and noon and 4 p.m. Sunday at the Monroe County Fair & Expo Center in Henrietta. Tickets are $12 ($7 for ages 11 and younger). There’s a $5 parking fee.

4. The First Friday gallery hop is from 6 to 9 p.m. today at more than 28 venues in Rochester. Openings, music, poetry shows and more are part of the event.

5. The Super Bowl (if you don’t know, the New Orleans Saints face the Indianapolis Colts) kick-off is at 6:25 p.m. on CBS, WROC-TV (DT 8.1, cable channel 8). There are numerous parties at bars and other nightspots throughout Rochester. Following the game, see some of our local Waste Management Inc. employees in the new show, Undercover Boss.

6. Comedian Kathy Griffin is at Rochester Institute of Technology’s Gordon Field House for an 8 p.m. show today. Tickets are $41.

7, Geva Theatre Center’s Nextstage opens Underneath the Lintel at 7 tonight for a monthlong run. Tickets are $24.

8. The world-famous Harlem Globetrotters will showcase their amazing ball-handling antics at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Blue Cross Arena at the Community War Memorial. Tickets ($23 to $117) are available at the arena box office, (585) 758-5300.

9 The Rochester City Ballet presents Peter and the Wolf at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Nazareth College Arts Center. Tickets are $15 and $20.

10 The Ganondagan Winter Games are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the state historic site in Victor.
