Rochester nursing home employee charged with rape
An employee at a Rochester nursing home accused of raping a patient is facing charges of second-degree rape, a felony, and endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, a misdemeanor.
Kipper Allen Stevens, 45, of Rochester, is accused of having sexual intercourse with a female patient who is also a resident at Shore Winds Nursing Home, 425 Beach Ave. on Dec. 21, said Rochester police Officer LaRon Singletary. Stevens was employed at the home as a licensed practical nurse at the time, officers said.
Monroe County Assistant District Attorney Matthew Schwartz said the victim is a middle-aged woman who has a mental disability. Because of her medical condition, she was not able to give her consent, he said.
Stevens was apprehended Saturday morning by Rochester police officers. He had been indicted by a Monroe County grand jury following a six-month-long investigation.
He was arraigned Wednesday morning by Monroe County Court Judge John J. Connell and was remanded to the Monroe County Jail in lieu of $1,500 cash bail, Schwartz said. Stevens is slated to return to court at 9:30 a.m. on July 21.
