Rochester Mayor Robert Duffy could have a challenger come November.

The Monroe County sheriff’s race could be back to three candidates, again.

New candidates also have filed for Henrietta and Penfield town supervisor, and for Sweden and Wheatland Town Board.

Tuesday was the deadline for filing independent nominating petitions. Some of those who filed, including mayoral challenger Alex White, a Green Party candidate, still could face objections to their petitions through Friday.

City Council candidate Diane Watkins, bumped off the Democratic line because of problems with her petitions, has re-filed under the Friends of Diane Watkins Party.

Back in the sheriff’s race is Ernest Jones, who previously tried to force a Democratic primary against former Undersheriff Dan Green. Jones filed petitions Tuesday under the People’s Party for Justice banner.

In Henrietta, Jeffrey Kueppers has filed for town supervisor. In Penfield, Steve Nazarian has done the same. In Sweden, Timothy Bates filed to run for Town Board. In Wheatland, Timothy Davis did the same.
