The Greece Town Board fired police Sgt. Brian Ball, above, this morning.

A Greece police sergeant was fired today and another was demoted, just two days after the suspended chief was arrested by State Police.

Sgt Brian Ball was fired following a special meeting of the Town Board at 8 a.m., said Deputy Town Supervisor Jeff McCann.

Ball’s attorney, Jon Getz, said Friday evening that his client is to be arrested on Monday and that Ball will fully cooperate with State Police, but he added that they don’t know what the criminal charges will be.

He was terminated, but we don’t know why,” Getz said. “It’s hard to tell since the town is being very secretive. … It’s very frustrating.”

At the same meeting, Sgt. Thomas Schamerhorn was demoted to officer, McCann said.

The meeting was called because of charges brought against Ball and Schamerhorn during an internal investigation of the police department, McCann said.

He said he could not go into details about what the charges were.

On Wednesday, suspended Police Chief Merritt Rahn was charged with offering a false instrument for filing, a felony. He pleaded not guilty in state Supreme Court.
