Former Greece Police Officer Gary Pignato, now imprisoned for bribery and coercing a woman into sex, will remain in the Monroe County jail as he awaits a second trial on a similar charge.

State corrections officials today transferred Pignato to Monroe County in advance of his trial, which is scheduled for Nov. 30. A pretrial hearing scheduled for today was postponed until Nov. 25.

A jury this year convicted Pignato on charges that he coerced a woman into sex by threatening to report her possible probation violation to probation officials if she did not have sex with him. The woman could have been jailed for the violation.

Pignato also faces similar charges from a case involving a second woman.

The start of Pignato’s trial could hinge on the ongoing trial of Frank Garcia, who has been convicted of killing a Canandaigua couple and is now facing two murder charges in Monroe County. Garcia’s attorney, Joseph Damelio, also represents Pignato.

Pignato has been imprisoned at the Mid-State Correctional Facility in Oneida County.
