Folk Art Guild’s sale draws shoppers to Harley School
Holiday shoppers spent some time today at The Harley School in Brighton searching for interesting Christmas gifts made by the Rochester Folk Art Guild.
The sale, which also runs 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, featured dozens of pottery pieces, knitted clothing items, wooden toys and furniture, and silk-screened holiday cards, all of them made by art guild members in Middlesex in Yates County, an organization of local artisans.
The sale has been held in the Rochester area since 1960 and is always the guild’s biggest event of the year. The group of guild members who live at East Hill Farm includes single men and women as well as families with children. There are individual dwellings and dormitory-style residences.
“We are a community of craftsmen that takes a lot of pride in everything we do,” said David Barnet, art guild and event spokesman. “People can come here and see so many interesting things in full display that they can’t necessarily find other places.”
