Two college students were seriously injured in a crash early today in Batavia, Genesee County, according to Batavia City Police.

Pearl Jefferson 19, of Rochester, was driving on Main Street, when her sedan became disabled in the westbound lane, near Bank Street and the YMCA, and she called a friend for help. Her friend, 19-year-old Megan McClurg of Perry, Wyoming County, was pushing the car off Main Street, when a westbound minivan rear-ended the disabled car, pushing it about a half-block and pinning McClurg between the two vehicles, said Batavia Police Detective Todd Crossett.

The crash occurred about 12:20 a.m. today, officers said.

The women are students at Genesee Community College, Crossett said.

Jefferson, who was in her car at the time, suffered a serious neck injury and several facial fractures, he said. McClurg broke both her legs, but was conscious and alert. Both women were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.

McClurg is listed in satisfactory condition today, according to a hospital spokeswoman. Jefferson was discharged.

The minivan driver, Brandon Gendron, 21, of Oakfield, Genesee County, was not injured, according to police.

A stretch of Main Street was closed for several hours this morning. State Police assisted officers at the scene.

Authorities today are investigating the accident. Crossett said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
