Fire damages apartment on Culver Road

A first-floor electrical fire damaged one apartment in a large house at 261 Culver Road in Rochester shortly before 5 this morning.
Battalion Chief Bob McEneaney said that firefighters believe the fire was accidental in origin and started near a television set in the apartment. A woman who lived in the apartment with the fire damage was alerted by smoke detectors in the hallway of the building, and she was able to exit safely.
“People were exiting the building when we got here,” McEneaney said. “We knocked the fire down pretty quick. Everybody else got out fine. They used the fire escapes. There was quite a bit of smoke in the hallways.”
McEneaney said that the building contained nine apartments, and 14 people live in the building.
One person was displaced by the fire, and she was being assisted by the Greater Rochester Chapter of the American Red Cross, McEneaney said.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries at the scene, McEneaney said. One firefighter suffered a minor cut, while a second twisted an ankle.
A portion of Culver Road was shut down by Rochester police for about an hour between 5 and 6 while firefighters worked at the scene.
