A faulty chimney caused a fire at a house in Kendall, Orleans County, late yesterday.

Kendall Fire Chief Brad Youngjohn today said firefighters were called to 958 W. Kendall Road about 10:15 p.m. to battle a chimney fire, which spread to the roof of an enclosed porch at the residence. No injuries were reported, he said.

Youngjohn said a family of four lives in the 1 ½-story house and were alerted of the fire when smoke detectors sounded. They all escaped safely before firefighters arrived.

He said it took firefighters about 20 minutes to control the fire, which was contained to the chimney and porch. Because of the fire, there is a large hole in the porch roof, but the house is still livable, Youngjohn said.

The house is located just south of the Lake Ontario State Parkway, about 500 feet from Lake Ontario.
