Puerto Rican fest organizers urge: Celebrate with pride
Celebrate with pride this weekend, Puerto Rican Festival organizers said Wednesday.
At a news conference at Frontier Field, festival board president Orlando Ortiz spoke of the importance of people enjoying the 41st annual festival and not misbehaving.
“We are not only celebrating our culture, but we are also celebrating the generations that have supported us throughout the past years,” he said.
Mayor Robert Duffy and Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks presented Ortiz with a proclamation declaring the Puerto Rican festival weekend.
“This has been a symbol of our diversity, our unity and our pride here in Rochester and Monroe County,” said Brooks.
City Councilmember Jacklyn Ortiz said the festival is a special time.
“A time when the community at large can learn, share and celebrate all there is in regard to the culture and heritage of Puerto Rico,” she said.
