Victor, Candandaigua bring home state volleyball titles
For the second straight year Section V teams captured state titles in the two highest classes at the state girls volleyball tournament at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
Canandaigua won the Class AA title in four games and Victor won the Class A title in three games today in Glens Falls.
The Braves, who lost in the final four years ago after taking a 2-0 lead, defeated Baldwinsville of Section III in four games. Scores were 25-15, 25-22, 25-27, 25-23.
Junior CQKym Gordon led Canandaigua (20-1) with 19 kills and seven blocks and junior Liz Scott added 14 kills, 10 digs and 2 blocks.
Senior Brigid Moore finished with 31 assists as Victor captured its second consecutive state title with a three-game sweep over Cornwall of Section IX.
The Blue Devils (16-4) also won a state title in 2003. Senior Taylor Ryan had 12 kills for Victor, which went 6-0 in pool play on Saturday and defeated Cornwall 25-12, 25-20, 25-17 today.
Senior Alanna Shelley had eight kills for Victor (16-4).
Irondequoit won the Class AA title last year.
